The Book I Meant to Propose

I had actually intended to propose reading "The Allegory of the Olive Tree," which is a collection of essays about Jacob 5. It's a good, dense read, and one that I think would submit well to this sort of thoughtful exercise that we're doing here. It's put out by FARMS, and the parts that I've read so far have been really interesting. Here's the catch: it's a difficult book to find. So if you're interested we can talk to Andy about where he found my copy & see if we can scour the internet to find another copy for those that want to participate.

That does sound interesting.. though I recently (accidentally) bought volume 2 of a series of books about Eleanor Roosevelt, written by Blanche Wiesen Cook (it was a New York Times bestseller, if that means anything super special to either of us.. hehe) I haven't read much of it, but it looks pretty interesting so far.

Eleanor Roosevelt is a lady who people are always saying wonderful things, yet I know nothing about. So the first volume of this series could perhaps be another book to consider reading sometime.

PS. I'm going to be on my honeymoon from the 17th through the 24th.. can we take a week off? Or, I could do double the next week... but I really don't think that I'm going to be able to post anything of substance that week :)

A week off or going double, either one is fine with me. Honeymoons are important and if reading is going to cause you stress we'll just adjust the schedule a bit. No biggie.

If you give me the actual title of your E. Roosevelt books I'll stick them in the books under consideration. I've also heard good things about her, but I don't know anything specific either. That would give us something to put in the Books of Centuries!

As I said, the Jacob 5 book is a bit hard to find, so even if we start looking now it may take some time to put our hands on another copy, and if either of our other 2 companions cares to play then we'll need still more copies... we may end up doing another book before that one. Which would be fine. I'm glad that it sounds interesting to you!

I talked to Andy and he said that because the book is hard to find, it's quite pricey as well. He thought it would be possible to find more copies, and that they could probably be had for less than $75.

Eerrrr... $75 for a book for fun is a little more than I'd like to spend, and I'm assuming that it's not going to be in the local library. Perhaps if we can find it reasonably priced (nearer to $25) then I would be more inclined to consider buying it....

I think that doing double the week after the honeymoon is better. I feel like we're doing so well with getting through this book that I don't want to bog us down just 'cuz I'm away playing for a week :)

As for that book on E.Roosevelt it is called:
"Eleanor Roosevelt, Vol. 1; 1884-1933" by Blanche Wiesen Cook.

Andy checked Amazon.com right now and there are 6 copies available right now he says, all for less than $40, I think even less than $35, and that's for the most expensive. So it'd be a good time to go and pick one up if we're serious about doing this for our next book. It'd end up sitting around a bit, but it's available for relatively cheap this time: he searched much long for a more expensive copy of the book when he got it for me!
